BACKGROUND
In response to the obvious need in terms of re-establishing
a genuine vocational education and training (VET) system the
National Observatory of Croatia started with its regular activities
in October 2000.
The National Observatory is an institution aiming to promote
applied research, expertise development and co-operation in
the field of vocational education and training. This implies
initial, as well as continuing vocational education and training
for both young people, unemployed and employed adults. Links
are emphasized between vocational training on the one hand
and education, labour market, employment, sector, regional
and company policies on the other.
APPROACH
The work of the Croatian National Observatory is based on
the principles of co-operation and complementarity vis-a-vis
the work carried out by national authorities, research bodies,
national co-ordination units for EU programmes, international
donor agencies and other institutions.
ACTIVITIES, SERVICES, PRODUCTS
The National Observatory Croatia identifies priorities and
advises on policies for the further development of vocational
training by:
Collecting data on, commissioning research and carrying out
structured assessments of specific aspects of VET in Croatia;
Disseminating information and good practice in the field
of VET and related fields from European Union Member States
and other countries to Croatia and vice-versa;
Developing co-operation with international organisations
and networks of EU and
non-EU countries, including donor initiatives in VET field;
Providing a useful and permanent presence of the European
Training Foundation in Croatia for a variety of purposes
Co-operating closely and participating in the activities
of the National Observatories Network.
Other specific activities include the following:
Project management / technical assistance;
Events organisation (seminars, workshops, conferences, planning
meetings);
Running a small documentation / publication reference centre;

HOST INSTITUTION
